Cedar Fir, the most energized jazz duo from Lincoln High School, is made up of students Isaac Briare and Paddy Jenkins-Law.
Isaac Briare starting playing just two years ago during his sophomore year of high school, Isaac Briare has fell in love with playing music, predominantly Jazz. His main instrument is the piano, but he also plays bass on the side. Isaac is currently studying with pianist and organist Joe Bagg. His favorite part about playing is making music with his friends, and playing with new people all the time. Isaac plans to study music education in college next year.
Paddy Jenkins-Law has been playing guitar for about six years and bass for almost two. His biggest musical influence has been his father since he also plays classical guitar and bass. In addition to Paddy’s brother and father helping him find his groove, Lincoln High School band director David Kays and jazz guitarist Dan Balmer have been influential in his music education. Paddy’s favorite part about playing music is being able to hang with friends, collaborate with other musicians, perform gigs, and converse in the language of music.
Local talent Minntah Haefker will be the featured vocalist for this brunch experience.
Minntah Haefker is a young, multi-lingual (Thai, German, English) vocalist who was raised in both Portland and Astoria, Oregon. She spent her early years studying piano with Mike Van Liew and voice instruction with Lisa Nelson at the Astoria Conservatory of Music. In her junior year of high school, she won the Oregon School Activities Association state soprano competition. Minntah is currently a senior at Lincoln High School in Portland, studies voice with mezzo-soprano Angela Niederloh, and often performs as a guest artist with Oregon Music Hall of Fame inductees 3 Leg Torso.
In March of 2023, Minntah received a standing ovation at the State Capitol after performing a Puccini aria for the opening ceremony of the Oregon State Legislature. More recently, she was profiled in a full-length radio interview by symphony conductor, Raúl Gomez on All Classical Portland Radio and participated in the Cascadia Chamber Opera Festival. Since June 2023, Minntah has been exploring jazz and performed as a featured guest artist at both the Astoria Jazz Festival and the Cathedral Park Jazz festival.
